The fight ends, and the first sentence is still "if you hadn't." At work it is the team. At home it is the spouse, the parents, the church that failed you. The move is older than our excuses. When God asked Adam about the fruit, Adam put the fault on the woman and, in the same breath, on the God who gave her. Shifting blame feels like survival. It keeps you from the only door that actually opens.
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse. God's justice is not soft. John has already tied that cleansing to the blood of Jesus. Confession does not pay for the sin. It stops hiding and receives a pardon Christ already bought. Owning your part is not the savior. Christ is. And confessing is not permission to keep the sin you have described. Mercy and forsaking travel together.
Say the true sentence without the dodge. Name your part to God first, then to the person if you harmed them. Do not prosecute them in order to feel innocent. You do not need to win the argument about who started it. You need the forgiveness that ends the need to.

Genesis 3:12 (ESV): “The man said, ‘The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.’”
1 John 1:8–9 (ESV): “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
[Verse 1]
Step right up to the podium stand
Keep your finger on the buzzer in your hand
The neon is flickering, the camera lens is bright
And the APPLAUSE sign is flashing in the night
Spin the big wheel for a beautiful escape
And wrap your old sins in yellow caution tape
[Pre-Chorus]
Tell a clever lie to the studio crowd
Keep the music screaming so your conscience isn't loud
[Chorus]
When we play the blame game, nobody wins!
Fixing the world while we rot from within!
Pass the token, keep the scorecard clean!
Hiding our hearts in a giant machine!
When we play the blame game, nobody wins!
[Verse 2]
I pass off the guilt and I hit the right cue
The scoreboard is flashing, I won the review!
I walk off the stage feeling righteous and proud
While half of the studio is booing out loud
They hate my success, they spit at my name
Just angry spectators trapped in the same game
[Pre-Chorus]
It's a cheap little victory under the light
But nobody's healed when we're proving we're right
[Bridge]
But the studio lights burn out with a pop
The cameras go dark and the theme songs stop
I pull out my alibis, ready to plead
But Jesus looks down at the hands that still bleed
He bypasses the systems, the charts, and the crowd
And shows me the cross where His shoulders were bowed
No anger, no shadow of ultimate shame
For He took the gavel and carried my blame
My record is canceled, His mercy is free...
[Modified Chorus]
When we play the blame game, nobody wins!
Fixing the world while we rot from within!
So I'll drop the token,
Clear the scorecard clean,
Step away for good from the machine!
Yeah, I'll take the blame, let the healing begin!
[Outro]
No more games.
The debt is paid.
Let the healing begin.
