Let the Fruit Grow

Track 9 • 3:54
Art for Let the Fruit Grow

The Story

A life can look leafy and still be empty. We know the words, we know when to stand and when to sit, and people at a distance would say we are fine. Jesus is not impressed by foliage. He says He is the vine and we are branches, and apart from Him we can do nothing. Fruit is not a personality you perform. It is what grows when a branch stays in the vine: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Those are the Spirit’s fruit, not a costume.

The idol is religious appearance. We manage how we look in the room and neglect abiding — remaining in Christ’s word, confessing real sin, obeying when it is quiet and costly. Galatians sets that fruit against a whole catalog of obvious rot, so nobody can call bitterness or impurity "just how I am" while claiming to be full of the Spirit. God is not asking you to staple fruit onto a dead branch. He is calling you to stay in His Son, and to stop hiding behind a green exterior.

Abide. Cut the performance. Ask the Spirit for the actual fruit, and then do not be surprised when patience shows up in a hard conversation instead of on a stage. That is how you can tell it is real.

Associated Scripture

John 15:4-5 (ESV): "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV): "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Got the Sunday clothes, got the parking lot smile I can talk the talk, I can walk the aisle I know when to lift my hands, I know just what to say To keep the folks around me thinking everything's okay A canopy of green leaves, looking healthy from afar Perfectly manicured to hide who I am [Chorus] Cut through the show, let the fruit grow! I don't wanna just show up green I don't wanna just put on a scene Lord, I'm changing my whole mind It's only You I want to find Yeah, cut through the show, let the fruit grow! [Verse 2] You come walking through my life, looking close at the branch Past the titles that I hold, past the Sunday stance You hunger for the kindness, the mercy, and the truth But you find a lot of promises and empty, hollow roots I've been so busy trying to look the part for them I forgot to stay connected to the life inside the Vine [Chorus] Cut through the show, let the fruit grow! I don't wanna just show up green I don't wanna just put on a scene Lord, I'm changing my whole mind It's only You I want to find Yeah, cut through the show, let the fruit grow! [Bridge] Because a tree that never bears is just taking up the ground It can wither in the night if there's no harvest to be found If I'm living for myself under a religious cloak It's just a house of cards, it's just a cloud of smoke Don't let me stand here empty, putting on a play Break the stubborn soil, Lord, have your way Have your way! [Chorus] Cut through the show, let the fruit grow! I don't wanna just show up green I don't wanna just put on a scene Lord, I'm changing my whole mind It's only You I want to find Yeah, cut through the show, let the fruit grow! [Outro] No more hiding in the green No more living for the screen Just a broken, open soul Let the fruit grow Let the fruit grow
