The Story
When we think of Adam, we often focus on the failure that changed the world (Genesis 3). But Eyes Opened asks us to step into his shoes in the agonizing moments immediately following that choice. Imagine a perfect world with a perfect partner, and having perfect, unbroken fellowship with the perfect Creator and then feeling the sudden, crushing weight of separation, vulnerability, and shame.
This song captures the tragic transition from innocence to hiding. The lesson for us today is profoundly relatable: how often do our own failures cause us to sew together fig leaves of our own making? How often do we try to hide our shame from the very God who is actively walking through the garden looking for us? Adam’s story reminds us that while our choices have heavy consequences, God’s first response to our brokenness is to seek us out, calling, "Where are you?"

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I opened my eyes and the world was a song,
Where the rivers were clear and the shadows were gone.
But more than the breath and the pulse in my chest,
He gave me a mind and a soul for the quest.
A will of my own, and a heart that was free,
To choose every step of the man I would be.
I was the Masterpiece, whole and complete,
With a free heart dancing to every beat.
[Refrain]
Oh, the colors were vivid, the mercy was new,
Everything perfect and everything true.
The Work of His Hands was a beautiful sight,
And I was the gardener, walking in light.
[Verse 2]
Then from my side came a wonder of grace,
With the stars in her eyes and a light in her face.
Bone of my bone, we were one from the start,
With a single rhythm within our hearts.
We walked in the cool of the day with our King,
Under the shelter of every wing.
[Bridge]
But then came a whisper, a hiss in the leaves,
A shadow that dances, a tongue that deceives.
"Did He really say it? Is the Master so kind?"
A seed of a question took root in my mind.
One bite of the apple, and my eyes opened wide,
I immediately knew what I'd cast aside.
I traded the Garden for a selfish appetite,
And walked from the morning into the night.
[Final Refrain]
The colors are fading, the harvest is torn,
I’m waking to dust and the sting of the thorn.
The Work of His Hands is a beautiful sight,
And though I am wandering, lost in the night...
I look to the stars where the promise will rise,
To wash away sorrow and open my eyes.
Oh, I’m longing for Home, for the day I’ll be whole,
When the Master of All reconciles my soul.
